With its magnificent castle and its famous fine wines, Voygeot is one of the most famous villages in Burgundy and a major tourist destination. Close to Beaune and Dijon, it is situated only 5 minutes by car from the hotel and a visit should be on your to-do list during your stay. The most remarkable monument is, without a doubt, the Château du Clos de Vougeot. Constructed between the 12th and 16th centuries, this castle blends elements of several architectural styles, from Cistercian to Renaissance. Owned by the monks of Citeaux Abbey (located 12 km away) until the French Revolution, it has housed the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin since 1944, an association promoting the traditions, wines and cuisine of Burgundy.
Two other castles in the village warrant your attention – the Ancien Château, constructed in the 1850s, and the Château de la Tour, constructed in 1890. As a private property, you can’t visit the latter but its vineyard is open to the public. Here you can enjoy the village’s great wines, such as Clos de Vougeot and the four other fine wines (Cras, la Perrière, la Vigne Blanche and les Petits Vougeots). If you wish to visit other vineyard estates, there are only two other winemakers in Vougeot as the majority of the village’s vineyards belong to the farmers of the surrounding communities.
